Ruth and Etienne were the perfect hosts, and their B&B is absolutely lovely. Good location just outside the centre, around a 15 minute walk into the beautiful Old Town but within 10 minutes of a host of nice restaurants. Breakfast was a great way to start the day, very filling, and the room was great - very spacious, and a brilliant shower. Highly recommended!

When we were arrived we were welcomed with tea or coffee and home made cakes! They showed us some maps and gave us ideas of what to do. We felt at ease right away. The converted monastery is just as gorgeous as the photos. It was a great experience to stay in such a beautifully converted building. The room was really comfortable and lovely, on a quiet street. It takes about 20ish minutes to walk into the city, though there are public transport options too. Every morning we had breakfast and it was delicious and fuelled our day exploring Gent and taking a day trip to Brugges. Ruth & Etienne are really nice people and they have a lovely family (& a sweet dog!). If I'm ever back in Gent I wouldn't hesitate to stay with them again. Thanks for a lovely few days in Gent!

We had such an amazing time staying at B&B Marie Reiner - it felt like our home away from home! The room was very cozy and warm, and it was nice because the door was by the main entrance so we didn't have to walk through the house to get to the room. Every morning Ruth made us a delicious breakfast and gave us great advice on what to see in Gent. We'll definitely be coming back soon!

We had an awesome stay at Ruth and Ettienne's beautiful place. Ruth was very easy to communicate with. We got in much later then expected because of our train being re-routed, and she was totally nice about it and still greeted us warmly and sat down to have a quick glass of wine and discuss late night restaurant options. Her breakfasts in the morning were delicious and a great way to start the day. And they play THE BEST music too. :) The location of the monastery is much closer to city center and the train station then i thought when booking. It's an easy 15 minute stroll to the main part of Gent, but there are also a few restaurants nearby and a tram very close by if you don't want to walk. We walked to the train station the first day by choice and it was very easy. The bed in the room is super comfy, and there is also a private entrance so you feel like you have your own little place and aren't bothering anyone coming in and out. Overall, a beautiful spot and unique experience. So glad we stayed here!

Ruth and her family made us very welcome as they were relaxed and gave us drinks and delicious home-made brownies as soon as we arrived, whilst showing us maps and giving accurate and useful tips for our visit. The house including our bedroom and bathroom were as described and full of character, and the local neighbourhood was within walking distance of the old historic city and sights.

Ruth and Etienne are heartwarming people with a awesome home, just a few minutes walk from Gent Center. The Room is cosy and both, bath and bedroom are perfectly clean. They are very helpfull with every question we've had and made our stay in Gent perfect. Thank you fo heaving us. If we will come back to Gent we hope we can be your guests again. Kyra and Raphaele

Ruth and Etienne were very helpful they even had local maps and brochures ready to go for when we got there and they helped guide us to free parking only 5 minutes away. They were very welcoming! And breakfast was always a great treat.

We very much enjoyed our stay with Ruth and Etienne, they were warm and welcoming. The old convent is beautiful, and the breakfast wholesome and organic, very impressive! We loved Ghent and would be keen to return...

We had a really nice welcome-coffee with Etienne. They are both very warm-hearted people, so are their two dogs :) The room was very nice decorated and tidy. We had our own bathroom, which is really well planed- the hole house is an architectural beauty! It's a about 15 minutes-walk in the old city center, but it's still very quiet there.

Ruth and Etienne are living in a very beautiful monastry which is very close to the center oft Gent. The room and the breakfast were lovely. I would definitely recommend to go there!!

Josephine

Great place for a stay in Gent. The renewed monastry perfectly fits the city's atmosphere and Ruth and her lovely family made us feel very much at home.

Just amazing! We stayed with our 3-year-old daughter who loved the stay as much as we did. We felt home. A house with a lot of character and as lovely as the hosts themselves.

We really enjoyed our stay - the hosts were kind and courteous and cooked a lovely breakfast for us. We enjoyed the great location with respect to central Ghent, and the charm of the building. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend staying at this lovely B&B.

Our stay was overall very excellent. Ruth provided a very welcoming experience. The location is quite close to everything. We had a car rental and parking was not all too bad to work out. Breakfast was the most fun part. We would stay here again and next time stay longer.

Karl

Ruth and Etienne were very helpful and welcoming. Ruth drove us to the car rental when we asked for directions....much appreciated. The room is as advertised, found at the front of this home with its own bathroom. It is a bit out of the main part of town but a 10 to 15 minute walk gets you there. We enjoyed our stay. Thanks to our hosts!

Richard

Beautiful B&B in a unique building. The hosts were welcoming and made a delicious breakfast. It was a quiet residential area but it was a little far from the main part of town. It was a very unique experience to stay in such an historic building. The room was quiet, newly renovated and very comfortable. My husband loved the shower (he wanted me to put that note in :).

If you're looking for a quiet, residential area, this is a good choice!

Renee

We had a very brief overnight stay here, but Ruth met us to give us the keys and orientation on the town and was very helpful. The walk into the historic district was a little farther than expected, but the charming property has the advantage of on street parking and is within walking distance of everything. I wish we could have stayed a bit longer!

Nice neighbourhood and a very warm welcome from Ruth & Etienne and their family. Their advice on where to go and sights to see were very valuable. Thank you.

We really enjoyed sharing time and space with you and your lovely family and dogs. The bed was particularly comfortable.

Ruth was a very gracious and helpful host. Prior to arrival she was very responsive to various questions regarding the area and surrounding options and recommendations. When we would return from a day out they were VERY helpful with our lack of parking protocol. Centrally located for us to experience Ghent by foot (it is a bit of a walk to central old town), and day trips to Bruges, Waterloo, catching the Tour de France, Antwerp and onto Brussels. Great daily breakfast at our convenience. Their home is a work in progress and what fun to see what they have done, are doing and plan to do. Both Ruth and Etienne are creative artist in their own right and it was wonderful to see this expressed in their home. Our room and private bath were very spacious, well appointed and more than met our needs. Our only challenge was some pesty mosquitoes as I like to leave the windows open for fresh air. I shared this with Ruth and Etienne as we were leaving. They appreciated our feedback and would look into addressing the issue. Delightful family. Delightful experience. Highly recommend.

If you are visiting Ghent, look no further than this amazing room in Ruth's beautiful home. With the massive and comfortable bed, gorgeously decorated room, big wonderful shower with heated floors and rainfall shower, you will not need anything else. We were greeted with coffee and snacks upon our (very early) arrival - which Ruth was exceptionally patient about. We were given eating and drinking suggestions and welcomed every morning with a luxurious spread of breakfast items and delicious coffee. We were incredibly sad to leave their beautiful home full of art and wondrous little curiosities! The historic center is about 15 minutes by foot or 5 minutes if you rent a bike. There is honestly no hardship in strolling down Ghent's beautiful cobbled streets to make your way into the historic center. We were incredibly happy and looked after during our entire stay and give Ruth the highest ratings! You NEED to stay her, it's just wonderful!

Ruth gave us many recommendations on where to visit and places to eat which were very helpful. The daily breakfasts were the perfect way to start our days. It was only a short walk to the city center and there were many close places that most tourists would miss. A great stay!

Matthew

Our stay was fantastic! Ruth and Etienne were so kind and helpful, and very accommodating to our travel needs. The room was clean, bathroom was spacious, and the bed was so comfy. Breakfasts every morning were delicious! The location is a very solid 15-20 minute walk from old city center with minimal options nearby, but a nice walk through neighborhoods. Would definitely recommend!

Alicia

Ruth was awesome - gave us a ton of info about the town of Ghent and recommendations for places to eat/things to see. We were even a tad late from our train, but they were very nice about it. The place was clean and easy to access.

Neat place, awesome breakfast and really nice couple!

Beautiful family and home. Cannot recommend enough.

Our stay at Ruth and Etienne's B&B Marie Reine was all that we hoped for and more. Their monastery home is unique and charming, as are the hosts themselves and their beautiful, delightful daughters. Our room and bath was private and very comfortable. There, and in the family's quarters, artwork and interesting objects add so much to the ambiance of the place. Breakfasts were simple and delicious - fresh fruits, wonderful breads, homemade raspberry-currant jam, good coffee, and more. Perfect. The neighborhood is quiet, yet so close to the center of the old city. Ruth and Etienne gave good guidance for where to explore and dine, which we did easily on foot. However, the next time we visit it will not be right after the end-of-July Ghent Festival - what a mess the streets were! And so many places closed to recuperate. Still, we will return, to the city and to B&B Marie Reine. Thank you so much, Ruth & Etienne.

Linda

The monastery photo was enticing and the reviews highly encouraging. We were ecstatic about our experience. Ruth, Etienne, their children and dogs are warm, caring but unobtrusive hosts. The monastery is the family home, filled with art and folk collections from around the world, and evolving as they continue to make it more and more uniquely home. The room was very spacious with artistic touches, the bed very comfortable, lots of storage, plenty of personal space for reading, surfing or writing, and equipped with a spacious private bathroom and wonderful shower. Ruth's breakfasts are healthy, delicious and plentiful. The monastery is a 10 - 15 minute walk from the town center, but the tram is handy if you don't want to walk. Ghent itself was a revelation. It is much less touristy than Brugge, Brussels and Antwerp, our day trips from Ghent. Yes the highlights are there with the churches, cathedral, monuments, town squares, canals, chocolate shops but somehow, it is less aggressively globalized commercially. I suppose it won't be too long before the major international shops are there but for now, enjoy Ghent and visit Ruth and her family.

We received a warm welcome from Ruth despite having arrived at a difficult time after Etienne's accident. The room was spacious with a massive double bed and the breakfast was large and delicious. I particularly liked the fruit bread. The monastery is ideally located for exploring the old city.

Claire

Thank you so much to Ruth and Etienne for making our stay in Ghent an amazing one! Having been born and raised here, they were so knowledgeable about museums, local watering holes, and eateries. The Monastry was incredible, and had such an earthy and homey feel. Being such great hosts, catering to my many allergies was a breeze. Ruth's homemade raspberry jam was delicious. Needless to say, we will most definitely be staying here on our next holiday and recommending to everyone we know.

Christina

What a lovely place. We stayed for one night but wished to stay longer.

Ruth was a great host with tips of restaurants to dine.

In the morning we had a really nice organic breakfast. :)

The baby cot was also nice for our baby to sleep.

Ida

We really enjoyed our stay at Ruth and Etienne's home! It's a beautiful place in an incredible city, and they made it very inviting for us. Even though we got on the wrong bus to get there and showed up later than expected, Ruth was so kind, understanding, and welcoming. Plus, the breakfast in the morning was delicious. Would definitely recommend!

Adam

We truly enjoyed our stay at B&B Marie Reine during Ghent's Light Festival. Lovely couple & very accommodating to our every need. Until next time Ruth & Etienne.
